Good Shepherd Pediatrics’ staff works as a team to optimize physical and cognitive function and independence for patients with complex medical conditions. The inpatient pediatric care team includes: medical, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, respiratory therapy, care management, education, neuropsychology and dietary.
As an important member of the Feeding Program care team, the clinical dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy. During an initial evaluation, the dietitian assesses a child’s nutritional status, nutrition history, growth parameters and then calculates calorie and protein requirements to provide optimal nutrition. While collaborating with the medical and therapy teams, the dietitian provides ongoing evaluation of the adequacy of the child’s diet, while monitoring intake, growth, textures and tastes. The dietitian also provides nutrition education to family members.
